Customer Question

Hi, I started it one evening last week and was idling rough and lacked power. Had the code reader put on the CPU. Fault code read 29D0 - 2E7B.
JA: Is the rough idle intermittent or consistent?
Customer: Its consistent. Code reader showed misfire on cylinder #4.
JA: What is the model/year of your BMW?
Customer: 2009 BMW 323i
JA: Are you fixing your vehicle yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: Yes I am, and I haven't tried anything yet but Im hoping its just a bad coil or plug.
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: No, I don't think so. It burns oil but that is normal to my understanding.

a miss on cylinder 4 is usually a bad plug or coil, the first step would be to swap the coil and plug to different cylinders to see if the fault moves, this will verify the issue. If your plugs/coils are original you could consider replacing all on a 2009.

if the miss stays in cylinder 4 then next would be to compression test the cylinder, followed by swapping the injector to another cylinder to see if that causes the fault to move.

most likely the plug or coil is the issue.
