2005 Mini S. A/C on (very Hot), Battery light goes on,

Customer Question

2005 Mini Cooper S. A/C on (very Hot), Battery light goes on, battery gauge at full, EML light goes on, engine power throttle down, smell of electric wire/plastic burning. I pull over, look over everything...nothing seems out of place, I could find where smell came from. 10 minutes later I start engine, everything normal and drove home (a few miles). Engine service soon light came on.
JA: Have you tested the battery? Have you tried testing the alternator?
Customer: no
JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: I will most like take it dealer. I look on line and this scenario seems common but the solution where all over the board...I would like to hear from an expert before going to dealer.
JA: Anything else you think the mechanic should know?
Customer: I don't think other symtoms
