Hello what kind of help are you seeking with this?
Customer: replied 11 months ago.
i want to make my convertible top functional again
Expert:  Steve replied 11 months ago.
do you have a factory BMW scan tool?
Customer: replied 11 months ago.
no i dont i have a cheap scan tool
Expert:  Steve replied 11 months ago.
I can explain possible causes, simple things to try/check and next steps, but if you do not have the proper equipment to work on this car there is little chance you can fix this yourself.
please let me know if you would like to proceed

what scan tool would you recommend and yes please list probable causes

I will provide an honest answer. I trust this will be appreciated. Please remember that a low rating PUNISHES me for being honest and that I receive nothing for my time until a positive rating is clicked.
Even if you are on a subscription plan with multiple questions you must still select a positive rating to credit your expert although you will not be charged anything additional beyond your subscription rate
Thank you for your attention to the rating requirement
I would recommend a BMW gt1 clone tool
As for possible causes it can be:
Failed module
Failed sensor (there are multiple)
Failed control unit
Failed switch
Failed drive unit
Blown fuse (check if you have not)
Please let me know if you have further questions. Please do not forget to click a positive rating as this is the only way I receive credit for my answer, thank you. Best wishes with your vehicle.
