2004 7.45i crank no start. i had lots of codes show up

Customer Question

2004 7.45i crank no start. i had lots of codes show up including lean bank 1 and 2, secondary air injection bank 1 and 2, etc. but these codes have been there before but the vehicle always ran fine so customer decided not to do anything about it. This time, i also had a code for vanos adjustment bank 2. vehicle arrived crank no start. customer had tried to start it several times after it died on the freeway this weekend, so it cranked a little slow, but sounded normal other than that. charged battery and found i have cranking rpms on scanner and have fuel pressure at schrader valve on rail.
While attempting to diagnose problems, stupidly, i decided to erase codes before i documented them, and none have returned so far and i have cranked the engine about 45 seconds to a minute total now. looking for any data that i can check on the scanner or other things i can do to isolate the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hello and welcome to JustAnswer!

With it previously setting a lean code for both banks and now a no start condition I would first suspect low fuel pressure. What was the actual pressure reading?

Have you checked spark?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.

Ill check fuel pressure tmrw morn but it was a strong spray when schrader was pressed so i moved on..being coil on plug im not sure how to go about testing spark..i have a labscope but no c.o.p. pickups

An adjustable spark tester can be inserted into the end of a removed coil if spark needs to be tested.

hi i finally just got around to checking this car some more. so we have 50+ psi fuel pressure and good spark. i tested just a few coils, but spark was hot at the ones i tested. still have no codes that have come back even after a minute or more of total cranking while testing stuff. im wondering about the code i had originally for vanos adjustment bank 2, but i was dumb and didnt write the code numbers down before i erased them. checked oil level and it was a bit low. corrected oil level with no change.

oh sorry also meant to note that the battery was nearly dead when vehicle was towed in but customer stated he tried to start it several times so i didnt think anything of it. However even with a jump box hooked up to the terminals under the hood, the engine doesnt seem to crank as fast as it should. measuring about 150-250 rpms as seen from the crank position sensor on the scanner. just trying to give you as much info as possible. thanks!

Did you happen to take a fuel sample when checking pressure?
