335i: I'm a Toyota technician and working on a 2008 335i BMW

Customer Question

I'm a Toyota technician and working on a 2008 335i BMW and I replaced a passenger rear wheel bearing. ....Now the abs light and brake light stays on, but when I start it and drive for about a minute it goes off and stay off for 30 seconds and comes back on again.

I suspect the wheel bearing is in backwards, The ABS tone ring is in the wheel bearing. You can use a razor blade to detect which side has the tone ring (it is magnetic) also it can be damaged by a magnet so don't get one close to it.

Kenny , I know you guys are the experts. ..is for some reason I could have a bad speed sensor. ..cause the first time I installed it was put in backwards.
Expert:  Kenny replied 1 year ago.
Ok if the wheel bearing is in correctly,I would inspect the wheel speed sensor for damage and make sure it is fully seated in the wheel carrier.
Even if it was backwards that would not damage the wheel speed sensor.

the wheel speed sensor was the first thing I checked...to see if it waseated correctly.
Im not sure how to check the sensor...
Expert:  Kenny replied 1 year ago.
swap it side to side, and recheck the faults.

Expert:  Kenny replied 1 year ago.
No I haven't. It has to be related to the corner you have replaced.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I thought you guys might have seen it all.
Idont understand what I could have done wrong. ..I installed it on the car.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Took the axle out and pressed it out and back in...I didn't even remove the sensor
Expert:  Kenny replied 1 year ago.
I have seen a lot of wheel bearings installed backwards from bodyshops. I haven't seen it come on then go off.
You might have cracked it internally.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I don't know ...its possible. .....I'll try another one ...this will be the 3rd time. ..I'm going to be an expert on rear wheel bearing soon
Expert:  Kenny replied 1 year ago.
I meant the wheel speed sensor is cracked internally. I would double check the wheel bearing to make sure it is in correctly.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Oh ok...the wheel bearing is in correctly. .I checked to see which side face the sensor when I purchased it......you might be right on the sensor...for some odd reason. .it looks as if it reads it then it looses signal and comes on
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
