Customer Question

I have a '94 325i and had the battery changed. The radio code had to be input but I wrongly used the program button three times with the code and it did not take. Now I am told by the dealer that nothing can be done with the radio. I don't accept this. There must be a way to re-enter the code for the radio to work. They tried waiting an hour between inputting the code again to no avail.
What can I do to fix this?
Thanks
Greg

If you do not rate as one of the three ratings on the right, I do not receive any credit or compensation whatsoever from the deposit you have paid. The higher the rating the better and I strive to provide the best answers that I can.

If you need more information please use the reply or "continue the conversation" link, please do not select a poor rating - please just ask if you have additional questions.

If you select either of the left two ratings this is a negative towards me and I am not compensated for my answer, so please reply if you have additional questions.

the way to reset this radio, to get it to take the code again, is the following:

unhook car's battery for 30min

reconnect and then turn the key to the second position, and wait 2 hours. you will need to put the car on a charger for this time, or the battery will drain (also turn off AC system, etc, but make sure radio is on)

after 2 hours of sitting with ignition on, if it still won't take the code, then the radio has an internal fault and will need to be replaced, as the dealer said - there is no other reset procedure unfortunately. if it comes to this, you should be able to get an inexpensive replacement on ebay, or upgrade to something more modern at a car audio shop, best buy, etc

Remember, a low rating PUNISHES me for my honesty - thanks.

Please use the "reply" or "continue conversation" link if you have further questions. Otherwise please select a positive feedback rating (FAR RIGHT) so that I may be credited and compensated for the assistance I have provided.

Please do not select either of the left hand ratings - please simply reply if you require anything additional and I will be happy to answer any follow up questions you may have. Thank you and best of luck with your vehicle

can I just leave the car running for the two hours?

and also, which is the second position for the key because its not labeled?

Picture
Expert:  Steve replied 267 days and 15 hours ago.

yes, you can leave it running, or just drive it for 2hours.

position 2 is the second click when you turn the key - all the way without starting the engine
