1988 325 bmw runs bad, ihave changed the fuel filter, air flow meter, put lucas fuel treatment in tank, the fuel pump was replaced last year, i have not checked fuel pressure nor have i changed the fuel pressure regulator,o2 sensor temperture sensor, idle control sensor, tps sensor

Hi, can you describe further how the engine is running? Does it idle rough? And only run on a few cylinders? Will it run ok off idle? How many miles on the engine?bimmaster41105.2324417824
it is a used motor, mile unknown, it runs good on idel and on excelleration but then all at once it looses power and will not excellerate passed 5mph during that time it tries to regain power but then it looses power again, i play with excellerator to keep it going but it will not speed up also the engine light has been on about 5 months
Hi, ok thanks for the extra info. Please inspect the rubber intake boot between the AFM and the throttle. Any cracks in the rubber will cause poor running and fuel mixture issues. Try this procedure below to get fault codes from the engine computer. Procedure for acquiring error codes from Bosch Motronic DME - aka "Stomp Test"BMW e30 s, which are 1988 and newer, have Bosch Motronic versions M1.1, M1.3 and M.7 and can display fault diagnostic codes. Procedure for obtaining codes is:For safety reasons, put the transmission in neutral, and turn the ignition key to "On" position but do not start the carIn quick succession fully depress and release accelerator pedal 5 (five) timesAfter couple of seconds Check Engine light will blink once, and start to flash code(s)All codes are composed of 4 digits (see table below). For example, code 1211 is represented as Blink, pause, Blink Blink, pause, Blink, pause, BlinkWhen code(s) start to repeat, all of them have been displayedLet me know what fault codes are shown. Thanks
will perform task in the morning will contact when i finish
Great, thanks
i sprayed wd40 on all sensor connections, trottle body and cables, injectors, tps, car ran little better but would not idle down burning excessive fuel, ideling at 2000rpms engine check lite on a while, off a while found obd pigtail under hood 2 pins, can i jump it there for codes
Hi, there is no jumper needed for the simple fault code check, its done with the gas pedal as stated above.^ Or a bmw shop use a scan tool at the diagnostic port. Did you inspect the intake boot? I would also remove and clean the idle air valve. It's the T shaped cylinder near the throttle. Clean the inside of it, and make sure the mechanism is free. Also inspect the rubber hose that comes off the top of the valve cover and runs to the throttle body. If it's torn, it could cause idle issues.
getting right on it this morning
ok, thanks
the excellerator code checck is not working, the above item check was good but upon checking fuel pressure psi something strange happen when i turn the ignition on i cant get any fuel psi until i try to accually try to start the car and the gauge only rose to 65psi when i allowed pressure to rest it held at 30psi but pump will not respond when key is in on position is that a problem
These cars don't usually run the pump unless the engine is cranking, or running. 65 psi is too high, is that your reading when the engine is running? The fuel pressure reg may be bad in that case, as long as the return fuel line isn't kinked, or pinched somewhere. inspect the fuel lines front to rear.
had the throttle body disassemble when i did the fuel psi check
Ok, try the fuel pressure test when the engine is running. The fuel pressure regulator may be bad in that case, as long as the return fuel line isn't kinked, or pinched somewhere. inspect the fuel lines front to rear.
