Customer Question

I was adopting the computers on 2004 BMW M3, by accident I decoded the EDM control unit. And now the unit is showing in diagnostic bar. By the way I am using GT1 SSS for diagnostic. Can anyone help?

Hi

Thats the Chassis number

Directly under that label will be 2 others,1 will be the basic and 1 will be the program number.

problem is with the progman,

It will ask for the same thing twice and you don't know which one will work.

When your connected and you've indicate the DME

And remember you need a steady available charging current over 13 volts

Sometimes with a jumper pack

enter the basic top number 1

enter the program number 2

if it fails do 2 (at the prompt again)

then 1

fails again 1 then 2

By six rounds of this you'll hit on the right combo,

If this is the problem

Did you try to realign the EWS module to see if this will start

And can you read fault memory of the module

Thanks

THEBMWBUM

Customer: replied 3 years ago.
I can read all codes from module except for DME.
Would kindly tell me step by step how to realign the EWS module?
The GT1 is new to me.
Thank you! I appreciate it.

Hi

not reading the dme is a problem.

Disconnect the dme let it bleed out

try again.

if you cant read it the ews wont either ,

Let me Know

Customer: replied 3 years ago.
Hi I did exactly what you said, entering the basic top number 1 then program number 2 and at the fourth round it gave a new part # XXXXX programming DME. Then I hit accepted as it was the only option. After that came the following: Measures plan selected CKM backup successful CKM restoration successful Diagnostic trouble 3025 (CoApi)-SgMember not found Measures plan carried out with errors The following ECU(s) Contain further entries in the fault memory: DSC KOMBI Could not completely clear fault code memories. Then I disconnected the DME as you mentioned and tried again using the same programming number and got same result.
I repeated the entry of the basic # XXXXX the programming # XXXXX the new programming # XXXXX it gave me and ended up with the same result.
Thanks!
Expert:  Thebmwbum replied 3 years ago.

Hi

Sounds like it took the program the first run,dsc and kombi will error because of the can fault, which is normal.then you clear faults

With progman you go to services and align ews

with the gt1 you'll find it in dme service functions align ews

follow the prompts

Dont repeatedly code the dme without checking to see if you need to ,

When the measure plan was carried out with a green check mark at the dme its in.

Don't forget to have a stable voltage supply ,It will fail to program without it.

And the DME only accepts programing 13 times after that its kaput

Please Don't Forget to Accept

THanks

I cleared the faults and from Progman I tried EWS Adjustment and it failed the following message came on:

EWS Adjustment not successful
Diagnostic trouble 1000(CoApi)-General error.

You said go to services and align EWS, but I do not have such option.

Can the Dme be identified through the tester

and can faults be read out/

If not Disconnect the DME 10 minutes

reconnect attach the charger and try to progam again

Thanks

Customer: replied 3 years ago.
No the DME cannot be identified through the tester.
I can read faults expect the dme.
I disconnected the DME for 10 minutes and programmed again.
Same result came up ( Measures plan carried out with errors).
I disconnected the battery both sides to clear all codes manually.
Where do I go from here?
Expert:  Thebmwbum replied 3 years ago.

Hi

Do you have a stable voltage supply over 13 volts while programing

The DME powers up the main relay By activating the ground wire to it .

When the DME get unresponsive You have to jump the main relay to provide the power

to activate the DME.

below is the location of the relay ,the wiring from the relay to the fuse carrier ,the uhr2

is the wake up/power on

Use a fused jumper at the main relay the 30 to 87

Fused Jumper

Thanks

Customer: replied 3 years ago.
Yes I have a stable voltage supply between 13.20 to 13.40 volts at all time of programming. I have no problem with power.
I couldn't clear the codes out unless I removed both battery cables and attached them together to clear all codes.
What do you think?

Thanks!
Expert:  Thebmwbum replied 3 years ago.

hi

Alright now you have to power it up and program again

Keep me posted

Customer: replied 3 years ago.
I powered it up and reprogrammed it and got same result. I took pictures of the Measures plan and the result. How can I send it to you?
Expert:  Thebmwbum replied 3 years ago.

Hi

You can attach when posting ,look for the paperclip

Customer: replied 3 years ago.
There is no paperclip. Just "Check Spelling."

Hi

It uploaded to a server from just answer.

Try that part number again on the manual entry and remember you have to power up the main relay.

After it takes it go back to diagnosis and see if you can communicate with the DME.

Thanks

Then see if you can communicate with ews in diagnosis

Customer: replied 3 years ago.
Hi again,

sorry this is taking too long. When you say power up the main relay, What relay you mean by that?
I tried communicating with DME from diagnosis, it failed.
Thank you for your patience.
Customer: replied 3 years ago.
I sent the car to BMW dealer. They programmed it again and adjusted the EWS, still no communication with DME. Any suggestion?

Thanks
Expert:  Thebmwbum replied 3 years ago.

Hi

if this is at the dealer ask them to open

a PUMA case to reanimate the DME ,

From there they send this to ,most likely Woodcliff Lakes NJ

But This may be still a lost cause ,Whats you price on a new DME

Thanks

Customer: replied 2 years ago.
Hi,

A new DME costs over $1,350. Do you know anyone that can repair this one? I appreciate your help.

Thanks!

Hi

Thanks

let me know how it goes

Customer: replied 2 years ago.
Thank you for following up on the problem that I have with the BMW. I was able program it with a friend's help, but it is not getting into gears. It is flashing at D & R indicating that it is not engaging. The transmission is SMG gear box system. There is no code in SMG.
Expert:  Thebmwbum replied 2 years ago.

Hi

Sorry

Im not sure why your reply didn't prompt for a response on "my Questions " list

Remember with an SMG the Hood must be closed to select a gear

Since the DME is no programed

You Probably have to Do the learning in routine for the SmG control unit.

But check the faults in the SMG before doing this

It will prompt for the procedure

Thanks

THEBMWBUM

Customer: replied 2 years ago.
Hi,

You are right, the hood was open. This is my first time working on this kind of transmission.

The car is now shifting normal when driven normally, but if you slam on gas pedal the car would down shift and will lose power on Hywy and stay on Neutral.

Any ideas? I am willing to pay for this question.

Thanks
Expert:  Thebmwbum replied 2 years ago.

Hi

Bonus and positive Feedback is always welcome.

If the display is flashing then you may still have in the SMG

You need to read the fault out

If there are no faults ,Change the hood latches

Both hood latches

Thanks

THEBMWBUM

Customer: replied 2 years ago.
Hi,

You are right, the flashing was caused by open hood.
As I mentioned, the car would shift normal on normal driving, but if you push the gas pedal hard for more power, it will down shift to low gear and the car stops completely. Then I have to shut off the ENG and restart again and go slow and the gear light comes on.
I read the fault code and it has code# XXXXX SMG gear cannot be engaged or OBDII P1756.

Thank you!
P.S: I have paid a bonus and I appreciate your expertise.
Expert:  Thebmwbum replied 2 years ago.

hi

Which code reader did you use,the green screen would have prompted for a test plan

to follow.With the GT1 software.

Thanks

Customer: replied 2 years ago.
Hi,

I am using GT1, and it did prompt me for a test plan from 1-6. All passed and I cleared the codes, test drove the car, but when I go uphill and demand power in the 6th gear, it will down shift and go Neutral and the car would stop. then I have to shut off the car and restart it again.

Thank you,
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
Hi I am waiting for your answer, I really need to get this car out of here.

Thanks
Expert:  Thebmwbum replied 2 years ago.

HI

Sorry

Recently had to leave town for a funeral.

You should have a fault,If you still have no faults we;re back to my last recommendation

replace the hood latches

Thanks

Customer: replied 2 years ago.
Hi,
I am sorry to hear that.
The problem turned out to be in throttle position sensor and accelerate pedal module. I replaced both if them and that solved the problem.

Thank you for your help,
Pete
