2004 Mini Cooper S with a bad battery..correct size..Dealership

This answer was rated:

2004 Mini Cooper S with a bad battery. Will an off the shelf battery (correct size, adequately rated) from any auto part store do the job to proper spec's? Is there a critical reason to buy a Dealership supplied battery, other than the impact to the Dealer's profits for the month?
It is not critical to use the battery supply by the dealer. When the battery replaced we use a test plan to register the battery which tells the vehicle that a new battery has been installed. Only if the battery size and capacities change does the dealer need to program the vehicle to change the settings for the battery. You should be perfectly fine using the generic battery that has the same cold cranking amps and capacity make sure it also has the vent.
This is a little plastic tube that vents the gases from the battery while charging outside vehicle.
I hope this information is helpful please accept and best wishes on your repair. Thank you.
