Hello and welcome to JustAnswer BMW,

My name is XXXXX XXXXX it will be my pleasure to assist you today.

P0736: reverse gear - incorrect ratio

Could be a sensor problem, or one of several internal issue with the transmission (wear, valve, solenoid, etc). This code requires further hands on diagnosis and a proper test plan to be carried out before the exact cause can be pinpointed. The simple P code is too generic.

I hope that is helpful, please let me know if you have further questions, or if I can clarify anything for you.

It has been my pleasure to help today and I wish you the best of luck with the vehicle.

Many thanks.

transmission was just rebuilt.internal parts are fine.when i put in reverse it shows a malfunction and puts itself in nuetral.i was thinking maybe a valve?
Expert:  Steve replied 5 years ago.

that could also be a communication problem between the shifter and transmission then.

I would have it checked on BMW equipment for this type of fault
