Hi, for the drive failure warning, it could be a couple things.
The first would be low fluid level in the reservoir under the hood. This reservoir has a float switch in it, if the fluid is low the system will set off a warning like you are experiencing.
The cap for the p/s reservoir looks like the picture below. Check the level, you should have about 1/2" of fluid on the built in dipstick. If the level is low, it can only be topped off with the special Pentosin chf11s fluid available at the dealer.

Another problem that can cause the drive warning is a bad steering angle sensor. This part sits behind the steering wheel and gives steering wheel position to the computers so calculations can be made for stability control, and active swaybars.

The only way to determine for sure is to have a bmw garage read the fault codes from the system.
