Hello. I just puchased a 2002 Z3. The battery was recently replaced so I need to radio code. I phoned the original dealership with the vehicle serial number but the code they gave did not work. The serial number of the RADIO is 29971826. Can you help? Thanks in advance! Lee DeArmond
Welcome to just answer. Did they give you a 5 digit code
No....they did not have the code.
Hi,
The code that you need is the 15-16 diggit starting with PH--
Is you give me this I will get the code for you..
Thanks,Mark
Hello Mark. What is "PH"? I have both the vehicle VIN and the radio serial number, neither of which start with "PH"? Lee
Hi Lee,
Are you sure that the radio fitted is the original one that come with the car.?
There should be the 16 digit number along the top side of the radio unit..
Any more info will help..
Thanks,mark
Hi Mark, Yes, the radio is original equipment. The serial number I retrieved by entering the "info" mode by holding down the "m" key is 29971826. I do not have the skills or tools to remove the radio so hopefully that will not be necessary. Lee
I am not sure why my fellow expert can not retrive your radio code.
Here is you code. 53314
Hello Kenny. That code does not work. 53314 was the code given to me be the original purchasing dealer, however the radio will not accept the code. Suggestions? Lee
Does it read code wait? It cannot accept codes when it says wait.
Three unsuccessful attempts to enter the code will result in the radio being disabled for an hour. If the radio is disabled, the key must be left in KLR and the radio must be switched on for an hour.
Hi Kenny. No, unfortunately is does not read "code wait". It did after my first (3) initial attempts, but I waited an hour as per BMW instructions. Now it just reads "code". Lee
The local BMW dealership tells me they see this 2 or 3 times a year...where for some reason the corresponding correct code for the serial number does not take. I'm hoping you have a work around. Lee
Lets try 12133. Also try 11664.
No go on both the codes above. But now the "dashes" after "code" are blinking. It does not say "code wait", they are simply blinking....have not seen that before.
I havent seen that before either. Do you know what type of radio you have i.e. Alpine, Blaupunkt, or Pioneer.
No markings on the front other than "BMW Business CD"
Here are some pictures. Does yours look like any of this.
Yes.....it is the Blaupunkt.
This might seem silly Can you try to get the serial number again. Using the intructions below exactly.
Blaupunkt radio codesThe radio serial numbers can be pulled up in the radio matrix by using the radio Service Function:
Got it: SN 29971826
I think the radio will need to be removed so the whole serial number can be obtained. It is easy to remove the radio. The two plastic covers on either side of the radio flip open and just unwind the allen screws and the radio will come out.
Ok, here is everything as it appears: BMW Business CD 6512 6 909 884 BP027329971826 (this number also stamped in the metal on the side) FD142 Index 45 7 640 273 342 In addition, handwritten on the top front sticker is: 53314 (which is the original code I tried) Also toward the back is more handwriting: LM07088 And even more in marking pen on the very back sticker: 53353 Z3 Hope this helps.
Have you tried the 53353 yet?
Yep...just did. 3 strikes I'm out. Have to wait an hour. Is it ok to turn the key to first click and leave on for the hour? Recap, I've tried: 53314 53353 12133 11664
It should be the second click, Where it would be when you are driving.
Ok. Engine does not have to be on, correct? Also, after an hour, what is our next step? Thanks for all your help on this. Lee
The cant be on. I am doing research now to see If I can dig up the code. No problem. Sorry I havent got it yet.
On the second click, dash light on, engine and oil lights on, fan is running. Just want to make sure this is ok for an hour...don't want to do anything to hurt the car.
Yes this is it, I would turn off the interior fan to save the battery, If you have a charger it would be ideal to put it on the vehicle.
Is LM07088 the last 7 of your VIN?
Yes, that is correct.
I have found two more codes to try. 9461 and 1461.
Ok, will give them a try when code wait is up. THanks. Hey wait, those are 4 digit codes, its asking for 5 digit codes.
Your right. I geuss those codes wont work.
Hi Kenny. If you're still around, code wait is up so we can try something else. Lee
I have looked everywhere in all of my books, I cant find any other codes for you. The codes I had before are european. I think you are going to have to go to the dealer for this and I hate saying that. Sorry I couldnt be of more help.
Does it matter if I switch to european mode just to input the code? When I entered service mode I noticed european as an option.
You can try it, this is uncharted territory for me.
tried it....no go. None of the codes above work. Now in code wait again.
I have been thinking about this. I think the dealer will be the best option becuase they can contact BMW engineers to help resolve this issue. Please keep me posted on the repair.
I would gladly release funds to pay, however, the issue was never resolved...which is why I made the deposit in the first place. Unfortunately, now I must take the car to BMW service which is a MINIMUM $50 just to pull the radio and give me the code. I am not comfortable paying $70 (total) just for a radio code! Do you have any other suggestions regarding the radio code problem which might help resolve it? Lee
I dont have any more ideas. I will opt out and see if another expert can help you.
