What does the car do exactly when you try and start it? Anything? Does it turn over but not fire? Is it possible the jumper cables were reversed? Have you tried jump starting it or just charging the battery?
Customer: replied 7 years ago.
<p>I DON'T KNOW IS CABLES WAS REVERSED.(MY WIFE JUMP STARTED THE CAR )</p><p>I BOUGHT I NEW BATTERY .NO CHANGE.</p><p>CAR TURN OVER BUT DON'T FIRE.</p><p>ALSO SPAYED "FAST START" IN AIR INTAKE. NO CHANGE.</p><p>ADDED GAS LINE WATER REMOVER TO THE GAS TANK.</p><p>DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO.</p><p>COULD IT BE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM?.</p><p>ALSO RECHARGED BATTERY WHILE BEEN CONECTED TO CAR.<img src="/tinymce/jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-embarassed.gif" border="0" alt="Embarassed" title="Embarassed" width="18" height="18" /></p>

Was the car running perfectly fine before the battery died?
Customer: replied 7 years ago.
yes
Expert:  Dave Jaworski replied 7 years ago.
Do you think its possible your wife improperly jumped the car? Thats what its looking like from my end. It would appear the ECU might have shorted out... Do you know how to check for spark? That will easily tell you if the ECU is or isn't fried.
Customer: replied 7 years ago.
<p>how do i check for spark?</p><p>what does ecu means?</p>
Expert:  Dave Jaworski replied 7 years ago.
Hey,
ECU is the engines computer. Also it is easiest to check for spark by buying a decently cheap tool at an auto parts store. It basically allows you to hook up the coil and spark plug and makes it so you can see if the plugs are actually firing.
Customer: replied 7 years ago.
i think i have one.
is it posible that condensation (water) in the gas line could have created a blockage?
shoukd i wait 'till the temp. goes up and try to start car?
Expert:  Dave Jaworski replied 7 years ago.
How long has the car been sitting since it last ran? Water blocking the gas line is unlikely.
Customer: replied 7 years ago.
<p>4-5 DAYS</p>
Expert:  Dave Jaworski replied 7 years ago.
The only thing i can think of that would cause this is a reversed set of jumper cables possibly cooking the ECU. Or a voltage spike doing the same.

Like i stated earlier you can do basic things like check for fuel and spark. If the ECU is toasted it is most likely not outputting spark.
Customer: replied 7 years ago.
i checked for fault codes by turning the key to on,then pressing the gas pedal five times withing five seconds and the check engine light flashed in a patern of 1444 (no faults stored)if the ecu was "ccoked" i don't think it would be able to send a code.i'm i right?
i have a autoxray code scout 2500 and an adapter connector (bmw to obd 2).can this be used to diagnose ?
Expert:  Dave Jaworski replied 7 years ago.
You are correct with the gas pedal trick, although your OBD2 scanner wont work because your car is OBD1.

Have you attempted checking for spark and or fuel?
Customer: replied 7 years ago.
<p>DON'T KNOW HOW TO CHECK FOR SPARK AND OR FUEL (THAT'S WHERE YOU COMES IN)I NSTRUCT ME PLEASE.</p><p>ARE YOU SURE BMW 1995 IS OBD1,NOT OBD2?</p>
Customer: replied 7 years ago.
REGARDING THE GAS PEDAL TRICK...DOES THIS VALIDATE MY ASSERTION THAT THE ECU IS NOT DAMAGED?
Expert:  Dave Jaworski replied 7 years ago.
Hey,
Yes the gas pedal trick tells us that the ECU is in fact still working. And yes your car is OBD1. There are a number of ways to check for spark/fuel. We'll start with spark. It is best (safety wise) to buy a cheap spark tester at an autoparts store. You basically hook the spark plug into it (while still connected to your coil pack) and ground the other end of it. If youre seeing spark while you try to crank it, then that eliminates that problem.

THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING.
PROBLEM SOLVED BY WEATHER ABOVE FREEZING POINT.
CAR STARTED GOOD THIS MORNING.42 DEGREES
Expert:  Dave Jaworski replied 7 years ago.
Well that's really good to hear but we should still look into what caused the no start situation. My 98 M3 has started when it was 10 degrees F out.
Customer: replied 7 years ago.
I WILL ADD WATER REMOVING ADDITIVE TO GAS TANK
Expert:  Dave Jaworski replied 7 years ago.
A possibility you might want to look into is the temp sensor on the engine and verify that the car is engaging cold start mode when it should be. It also might not be getting enough fuel initially.
Customer: replied 7 years ago.
<p>i replaced the temp sensor not too long ago.</p><p>i think if any it is getting too rich mixture of fuel.</p><p>(strong smell comes out of exhaust)</p>
Customer: replied 7 years ago.
<p>TEMP DROPED,CAR WON'T START.</p><p>CAR IS PARKED IN DRIVEWAY ON AN INCLINE (FRONT LOWER THAT BACK)</p>
Expert:  Dave Jaworski replied 7 years ago.
Once it does start (Like when its warmer) does it ever have any cutting out issues or anything?
Customer: replied 7 years ago.
none
Expert:  Dave Jaworski replied 7 years ago.
well what it sounds like is that your battery is cooked. Do you have another car you can swap batterys from? Old batterys can freeze sometimes in extreme weather.
Customer: replied 7 years ago.
check above.
the first thing i did was to replace the battry with a new one
Expert:  Dave Jaworski replied 7 years ago.
Sorry about that. Do you know how to check for fuel? Do you know how to remove a spark plug? When is the last time your fuel filter was replaced?
Customer: replied 7 years ago.
i don't intend to be ofensive,but i think you're guessing.
i did tell you that a few days ago when the temp.was 42 degress the car started with no problem, that should eliminate the questions about spark, fuel.battery, fuel pump, fuel filter and the likes.if you don't have the knowledge to diagnose this problem allow me to ask another mechanic and stop wasting your and my time.
Expert:  Dave Jaworski replied 7 years ago.
I was asking all those questions based on the fact that either your fuel filter or pump may be dying/clogged and the extreme temps are making them inoperable.
Customer: replied 7 years ago.
will this problem be consistent with a faulty fuel pressure regulater or some kind of temp.sensor?
