I JUST PURCHASED A KEY FROM MY BMW DEALER FOR MY 2001 740IL. HOW DO I PROGRAM IT TO MY VEHICLE? THE ORIGINAL STARTS THE CAR, BUT THE TRANSMITTER FOB DOES NOT LOCK/UNLOCK THE DOORS OR TRUNK.

Hi Gerry,

To program your key, follow the following instructions. Please note that Position 1 is the first detent after you start turning the key (position 2 is "run", and position 3 is "start").

As noted in the instructions, you'll have to re-program all of your key fobs at this time. You do not need to put the second, third, fourth, etc., keys into the ignition lock, you only have to do the button pressing (i.e. start at step 3).
