Carry out oil service at normal operating temperature.
First replace oil filter, then change oil.
Clean sealing surfaces.
Add engine oil.
Run engine at idle until oil level and oil pressure warning lamps go out.
Check oil filter housing and oil drain plug for leaks.
Switch off engine, check oil level, correct if necessary (car must be on a horizontal level surface).
Remove any oil traces.
Fill out oil documentation.

Reply to zzdaryl's Post: I'm not satisfied with the answer. I want the whole procedure for changing the oil and the location of the oil filter and the tools to use

Hello and welcome to

Maybe I can help zzdaryl has opted out. All you need is some metric wrenches I believe the oil filter housing is a 22mm and the drain plug is a 12mm. You will also need to remove the access cover on the undertray to get to the drain plug. You either need just a philips screwdriver or a set of metric sockets. The fastener may be a screw or bolt. First you will need to remove the oil filter cap then get the car in the air to remove the drain plug. Your engine takes 6.9 quarts of oil. Here's the procedure straight from BMW along with some illustrations. Let me know if you need further assistance.

BMW Engine Oil Service (change engine oil and oil filter insert) :

  • Release and tighten down main flow oil filter cap with a socket only.

  • Replace seals and oil 0-ring.
  • Drain or draw off engine oil.
  • When engine oil is drained, open cap in engine underguard.
  • Open oil drain plug and drain off engine oil.

  • Complete vehicle and set in horizontal position. Top up engine oil.
  • Start engine and run at idle speed until oil indicator lamp goes out.
  • Switch off engine, wait approx. 5 minutes and then check engine oil level.
  • Top up engine oil if necessary.
