Most people install a "cat-back" exhaust system on these cars. A decent cat-back system is available for around $400-$600, which isn't too bad. Otherwise, I don't see why there is a problem with just cutting the old muffler off and installing a new one. People do it all the time. There is a difference between what some people are willing to do and what can be done.
