Our cockatoo has been chewing at s leg causing a hole about

Customer Question

Our cockatoo has been chewing at his leg causing a hole about the size of a half of a pea exposing his tendon. We do not know how to stop him or why she does it. She did it before and we used medication and do not know what to do. The vet gave her a hormone shot and some medicine to put into the open wound. He suggested that we see a bird psychologist. The vet's bill was $700.00 and I am sure a psychologist would run into the thousands. What would you suggest. We had blood tests done and it was normal. Thank you

Hi there. My name is***** to hear that Xena has been having troubles with her leg. I will do my best to help with your question. First I have a few questions to help me better understand your situation.

How long ago was the previous "episode" and how long did it last for?

Did the medication seem to help it go away?

Is it occurring in the same site as the last time?

Does Xena have any previous leg injuries that you know of?
