Customer Question

My female budgie gets blood under her tail feathers every time she melts. What can I do to help it heal.

I'm sorry that your question wasn't answered in a timely manner. My initial thought is that the bleeding you're seeing is due to pin feathers - the newly emerging feathers as she molts - fracturing through the portion of the feather still containing a blood vessel. They need to be removed for the bleeding to stop. If you can identify which are broken, you can pluck these feathers out. If you're uncomfortable doing so, Starry's vet can do this for you. Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.
