Customer Question

Avian pox..... Can I treat once symptoms are present topically....?

Yes, but how were you planning to treat Mary? We're constrained to treat these birds supportively although pox vaccine is available. Affected birds should be isolated from the rest of the flock.

I read some treat growths with iodine? Is it worth stressing the bird out with topical intervention?
Expert:  Dr. Michael Salkin replied 1 year ago.
I wouldn't stress Mary in that manner. Disturbing the scab-like lesions will only facilitate the spread of the pox virus. Iodine is antibacterial but pox is viral and resistant to iodine. Please continue our conversation if you wish.
