My grey parrot has a cold. He's eating but has mucus congrats

Customer Question

My grey parrot has a cold. He's eating but has mucus congrats from his nose holes. He is eating and drinking water. But he makes gulping gestures as if he has a throat problem . Last week he was fluffed out, one eye closed and sat at the bottom of his cage. He is much better this week. I would like to know what your advice is.

I'm Dr. Jeremy.
Good to hear the he is eating, birds that are not eating are a bigger concern. I sounds like his nose is clogged and he may have a sore throat or even "post nasal drip". If he's been sick for over a week I think it's best to get him check by a local vet and put on some antibiotics. Birds are very good at hiding illness and acting normal.
