chickens: lice..tiny mite sized bugs on my clothing..house walking

Customer Question

I may have lice from chickens. I left a rental house where my tenant had chickens and unknowingly picked up these tiny mite sized bugs on my clothing. I got into my car, drove home and came into the house walking across the rug...etc etc. I then discovered these critters crawling all over me. Question : 1) Will the few? that fell off of my shoes survive and multiply in the house 2) How do I get rid of them in the house and those in the chicken coop ?

Optional Information:
Type of Animal: chickens
Age: dont know
Name of Bird: chickens

Already Tried:
Nothing at the chicken yard. When I came home and found them on my clothing I showered and washed myclothes. Then Isprayed my shoes and my car seat and everywhere Ithought I might have touched...with "ant spray" It was all I had at the time.

Hello,
My name isXXXXX and I will do my best to help you with your question about chicXXXXX XXXXXce.

Please let me offer you some reassurance: Lice do NOT infect hosts of different species. That means people canNOT get chicXXXXX XXXXXce and chickens canNOT get people lice.

Sure, they may walk across your skin or your car seat, but they cannot set up housekeeping and carry on without a chicken as a host.

So there is no way these lice will multiply in your house. They will die once there is no longer a chicken for them to parasitize. They cannot live without their host.

I hope you find this information helpful. Please let me know if I can do anything else to be of assistance. You may enter additional questions in the box below, even after you've entered a rating. I'm happy to help.
