Customer Question

I have a Carolina Wren nest with babies just hatched on my porch. I haven't seen the mama sitting on the nest for four days, but the babies are still alive. I wonder if mama and daddy bird are nearby, just not sitting on the babies in the nest but feeding them.

Hello, I'm Dr. Bob.
Thank you for caring enough to ask this question!
You can rest assured that if something had happened to Mom and Pop bird, the babies would have starved or dehydrated to death several days ago. Baby birds must be fed hourly form dawn to dusk, so these are some very sneaky little parents! At this stage, the babies no longer need incubation because of the warm temperatures.
It is not at all unusual for the parent birds to escape detection in the performance of their duties unless you just sit and watch constantly.
If I may be of any further assistance to you, please let me know.
Kindest regards,
Dr. Bob
