Customer Question

My budgie flew into the door of her cage and knocked her wing, fell to the floor and has not been able to use it to fly since. The wing looks ok but she cannot use it to fly. Will this heal or is there anything I can do?

Hello!

Thanks for using JustAnswer.com, I'm Dr. Dan and I'll try to help you.

Is the wing drooping down, or is she stepping on it? Or is the wing being held in it's normal position but just can't fly?

After two weeks of rest the odds are very low now that any repair can be done which means if she can't fly now you need to expect she won't be able to in the future as long as it wasn't feather damage only. If a bird damages their feathers, she'll be able to fly again when the feathers molt out. If it was muscle, tendon or bone damage somewhere along the wing likely at this point even if we were to get a diagnosis not much could be done. If we wanted to know what happened usually a good physical exam and an xray will tell us but we run serious risk of not being able to do anything once we have that knowledge. If she is not in pain (unlikely if she's trying to fly still) then she can live a perfectly fine life as a pet not being able to fly.

I hope this helps, best wishes.
