our gamecock hen was found this afternoon, and appears to be in respiratory distress, we purchased her on Saturday May 3, she has not shown any signs of being sick until today. She is stretching out her neck and appears to have trouble breathing. She is not very alert, before she was running around in the pen, now you can reach down and pick her up. No bleeding or sores noted any where, no coughing or sneezing noted.
HiCustomer
Thanks for using JustAnswer.com, I'm Dr. Dan and I'll try to help you.
I am worried about two conditions your bird may have; first is an upper respiratory infection likely made worse by the stress of shipping. Also if your bird was primarily housed outside then I worry about a parasite called gapeworm. This worm can cause severe respiratory distress and potentially be fatal. If either one of these conditions exist your bird savvy vet should be able to help you get medication for either one, depending on what he/she diagnoses. I hope this helps, best wishes.
