This is not really a legend this came from the bible in which is where baptism occured to wash us from our sins and accept God into our lives and soul. Through the years many also believe that this also washes us from our ills as well. The date of August 15th came from an old English and Irish ancestors back from the 1800's in which this not only came to do with baptism but also many who also looked for the fountain of youth also came to believe that water would wash us from our sins due to the purity of the water that also runs from fresh water springs. I do hope this helps.

Sincerely,
