Maybe I should have just asked the whole question. What two documents (Gilgamesh, the old testament, the new testament, and the koran) have had the greatest influence on society today and explain how and why.

Which society are you referring to ? If you are asking about American society then the answer is obvious (the old testament, and the new testament) for the simple fact that most Americans couldn't tell you who Gilgamesh was let alone have any information about the story itself..

The same can be said about the koran.

However, if you are looking at the world as a whole then the answer would be different.

Well, as AnswerQuest pointed out... most of our "moral code" is derived from the Old Testament laws known as the 10 commandments.

Our national holidays all center around holidays that supposedly come from the bible.

The UN quotes scripture from Isaiah on the wall of thier building.

Take for instance homosexual marriage... If our society wasn't structured along the bible, then most people in this country would have no problem with it.. The concept of male / female coupling is a judao-christian ethic.

Hope this helps.
