Question

Does the word "Torah" repeat iself throughout the Hebrew Torah if you

Sent to General Experts November 09, 2006 4:43 p.m.

I've heard that every 4th or 5th letter in the original Hebrew Torah adds up to spell the word "Torah" repeatedly, throughout the whole Torah. Is this just a rumor, another spin off of The Bible Code, or is there any real evidence of this?

Hello Customer (name blocked for privacy), hope you are doing well,

A group of scientists and mathematicians has worked on this issue for more than 12 years now. Harold Gans who is a former Senior Cryptologic Mathematician with the National Security Agency, United States Department of Defense says:

"The phenomenon of hidden codes in the Bible is real, and its implication should not be minimized. While it is tempting to lose oneself in a sea of prophesy, what is truly astounding is that serious scientific evidence supports this contention and points to a divine author of the Bible..."

Many other mathematicians support the idea that using a system which is called ESL (Equidistant Letter Sequence) many events that happened in the human history were already encoded in the Torah.

Some other Christian mathematicians however, using very sophisticated mathematical methods claim that methods used to "decode" the Torah and not 100% error proof and rely on many assumptions.

As for the word Torah there's nothing said or written, at least not from those group of scientist and mathematicians who support the Bible Code idea.

As a Christian I believe that Torah is a divine book however there's much in there in the book that needs to be proven and/or analyzed.

Hope this helps but if you have questions please let me know.

Thanks for the info and the links.

I've done a bit of research into the bible code before, and it seems like it's basically just a bunch of people trying to prove the divinity of the bible by using math to look for words or information that is "encrypted" in the book. I would think that if you applied similar techniques to any book, you would find "hidden" words in them as well.

My main question before had to do with the word "Torah" appearing over and over again when you apply the bible code method of skipping X letters at a time. If a word like this was found to repeat continuously throughout the torah by using the bible code method, than I would probably have to reconsider my opinion of the bible code, but seeing as I can't find any proof that this happens, I'll have to assume it's just a rumor.

Hello again,

Well, I don't know Hebrew nor am I an expert of Bible but since it's related to math and the ESL method, I took some pages from the Torah and tried to apply the ESL method myself. I tried equidistances of 2,3,4,5 and 6 but never got any repeating pattern. Here's a page of Torah in Hebrew, try it yourself:

I agree with you and believe it's just a rumour.
