I am a 31 year old female. 5'4 and 250 pounds. I am a single mother of an 11 year old with ADHD and a 3 year old with autism. I work full time as well as go to school. Im in administration so I'm at a desk most of the day. My schedule is so hectic that I find it difficult to plan and prepare healthy meals. I am considering nutrisystem or medifast. Which one of these would you recommend?

Hello,Nutrisystem, although expensive, is based on the sound principles of eating balanced food that is low in sugar and fat. The best way to lose weight is to eat meals balanced between lean protein, brown-starch carbs (I.e. whole wheat), and veggies. A couple snacks of fruit per day can also be good. Also key is to eat every 3 hours. These principles will get you losing weight in a healthy, sustainable manner.Nutrisystem does the best job of any of the canned diet programs of providing this balance. I don't recommend it for my patients, because I want them to get in the habit of planning meals and thinking about each component, and because it is expensive. But, for very busy people like yourself, it is an ok substitute.Good luck,Dr Dan
Thank you so much! Have you had any experience with medifast?
Hello again,Medifast is a very similar program to Nutrisystem, which promotes eating 5-6 times a day and sticking to low-glycemic index foods. Either program would be acceptable.good luck!Dr Dan
