Welcome!

Welcome to JustAnswer and thank you for the opportunity to provide you with information..

This depends - can you please tell me more about the matter?
  • Did you own the car at the time you filed?
  • Did you reaffirm the loan?

Thanks!
Customer: replied 5 years ago.
Yes I have paid on the car for the past 4 years. And no I did not reaffirm.
Thank you for your information

The chapter 7 bankruptcy discharges personal liability on most debts that a debtor has at the time of filing. Therefore the chapter 7 bankruptcy would have discharged your personal liability on the car loan but not the lien on the property. This means if the car were repossessed or returned, the lender could sell the car to satisfy the debt but could not obtain a judgment against you for the unsatisfied portion of the debt. However it also means that you cannot sell the car without paying the mortgage in full
