Customer Question

Filed bankruptcy 7 years ago - included a second mortgage w/o reaffirmation. Sold that home & paid off that loan. Currently applying for new mortgage & underwriter has requested a credit supplement to review payment history from the second mortgage that was discharged in bankruptcy. Can they use this payment history to make a decision on the new loan?

Hi and thank you for your question. In the future, you can request me to answer any further questions.

A potential lender can review this type of information when considering a future loan with you. If you did not reaffirm, only payment history up to the time you filed would be on your credit report. Without a reaffirmation, the debt is discharged in the bankruptcy case, but the lien would still remain.

If you have payment history, you can provide it with the requested documents, since payments after the bankruptcy filing were merely voluntary.

Thanks for your question, good luck.
