My parents are going to file bankruptcy in Texas. They are married. Do they have a $30k or $60k limit on exempted personal property? Their lawyer says $30k but seemed unsure... They are filing with the Texas set of laws, not federal.

Your parents have a Homestead Exemption (unlimited if the house sits on less than a certain amount of acres) in addition to a personal property exemption, which would equal $60,000 for a family (a married couple with or without children is a family). You can see the entire statute here:
