we have a lien against our property from a repossession of a car, will filing for bankrupcty get rid of that lien? We also have other major financial issues

Thanks for your question. When you file a chapter 7, you will need to file an additional motion - motion to avoid a judgment lien. Judgment Liens can be stripped off of a home if they impair your exemption, meaning there is no equity after subtracting the mortgages and the exemption from the fair market value.
