I have a son with aspergers. he is 10, and i am crying as i write this.... i cannnnn notttt find a councelor or pychiatrist anywhere in my area of somers ct thats close, to go to for help. once again, another terrible morning getting him off to school......... i am run down, exausted, and like a total shell. we need help!!!!! tried many meds on him, and he goes to crec of ct once a week for desensitization stuff... cant even find a parent sup[port group around anywhere... please help me. we have 3 boys, and one has it, and i dont have anymore to give... husband hides at work, so its all on me, and i cant do it anymore........ the behavior is sooo bad, i want to run away....... im only human.. sm..........

I AM IN SOMERS,CT. HE GOES TO A REG DR. WHO HAS HIM ON MEDS, BUT HE SAYS I NEED TO TAKE HIM TO A SPECIALIST FOR DIFF MEDS HE CANT PRESCRIBE.. (PYCH?) POSSIBLY.......... WENT TO WES VINCENT IN THE PAST CLOSE BY IN ENFIELD, BUT HE CANT DO MEDS, AND NEVER CAN BE SEEN EXCEPT ONCE EV 2-3 MOS! I NEED CONSISTENT WKLY SESSIONS, FOR HIM AS WELL AS ME AND MY HUSBAND, AND MAYBE A THERAPY GROUP TO GO AND TALK OUT AND RELIEVE ALL THE STRESS INSIDE... THERE IS NOTHINGGG AROUND FOR ASPERGERS. THERE IS A MKILLION GROUPS FOR ALCOHOL, THOUGH... CAN U BELIEVE?? :)

Essentially you need 2 different specialists. One to work on the behavior and see you frequently and one to prescribe medication and see you less frequently.
Sometimes a pediatric neurologist can be the one to prescribe medications instead of a psychiatrist. There are 2 fairly close to you:
Dr. Herbert Gilmore
Dr. Beth Rosen
Both are in East Longmeadow, MA. I don't have phone numbers for them but you can probably find that in your local phone book or online. You might call and see if they will see patients with Asperger's and prescribe medication.

I'll see if I can find a support group for you. I would also talk to River Street School about options for therapy (not just desensitizing) as it seems like they offer a fairly broad range of services. They may also be able to point you in the direction of a prescribing physicXXX XXke a psychiatrist or pediatric neurologist. I'll be back.
