Stephanie Rosales, M.Ed., : Hello. My ne is Stephanie & I would like to help you to the best of my ability. My background is in assessment, diagnosis, treatment, case management of services for individuals with autism spectrum disorders. To answer your question, many universities & colleges have a department that works with individuals with special needs. If you know what universities or colleges your child is interested in, contact their department for disabilities and special needs. They can explain what type of documentation they require to be eligible for support and they can work with you and your child to determine supports, modifications, & accommodations in order for them to better access the coursework.
Stephanie Rosales, M.Ed., : I hope this has helped and I wish you the best. If you have anything further regarding this question, please let me know.

Stephanie,

Customer :

My son does not have any universities or colleges in mind as of yet. He is a sophomore who averages B grades in honors classes, however between social challenges, comfort zones, and being easily frustrated as well as not coping with stress well I am worried how that transition may be for him so I figured if there were any colleges or universities that were exceptional at supporting students with aspergers in New England I would look into them.

Customer :

Thanks
Maureen

Stephanie Rosales, M.Ed., :

Hello Maureen. I recommend checking with the local colleges and universities and see what there support services departments have available as well as your local Autism Society of America chapter to see if they know of any exceptional institutions within your community. It will also be a good idea to have him join a social - skills group for high functioning teens or to work with a therapist to begin developing coping mechanisms for when he does go to college.
