I have been charged with false declarations, if found guilty

Customer Question

I have been charged with false declarations, if found guilty what punishment would i be looking at?
JA: Because laws vary from place to place, can you tell me what state this is in?
Customer: queensland and i have been sent to magistrates court.
JA: Have you talked to a lawyer yet?
Customer: no, i was just going to deal with it myself as the officer who charged me said that i would probably only get a fine. but then at my first appearance the judge told me it was quite serious and would feel happier if i were to seek leagal advice first
JA: Anything else you want the lawyer to know before I connect you?
Customer: no

Good Morning

The maximum penalty is 3 years in jail.

If it is a fist offence and if the false declaration is not too serious you would be looking at a good behaviour bond and maybe a fine.
