Hello Louise. I am a practising Victorian solicitor, involved in this area.
You say it is a double dwelling home – do you know if there is one title or two titles?
Do you own a separate title, and your brother own the other title?
If there is one title, do you know what form of ownership you have with your brother – do you know whether it is joint tenancy or tenants-in-common. If you have a copy of the title and it does not mention either of these phrases, it will be a joint tenancy.
If you can provide me with this information I will then assist further.
