Hi! Me and my NZ partner have been in a committed relationship for nearly 2 years. We've lived together for 90% of that period. I currently hold an EU passport (Estonia) and we are looking at getting a partnership visa which would allow me to live and work in Australia on a more permanent basis. I currently hold a 1st year working holiday visa and live in Melbourne. Do we have to register our relationship anywhere in order for it to be de facto? We are intending to get married eventually but would like to go with the de facto relationship at the moment as my family lives in Europe. And also I noticed that the visa fee is nearly 3000AUD if the application is lodged within Australia and the applicant holds any Australian visas. So what would our best option be at the moment? Thank you very much!
Optional Information: State/Territory: VIC
Do we have to register our relationship anywhere in order for it to be de facto? No, you don't.Your best option here is to get started and to apply for the Partner Visa: Onshore Temporary and Permanent (Subclasses 820 and 801). Your application should be made through a registered migration agent to speed up the processing time.Should you have any other questions, please let me know.
