Customer Question

I have freezer fridge kelvinator cyclic 170. There's a button in the fridge with setting range from 1-6. My questions:-
1. does the setting meant for fridge only or for both fridge & freezer?
2. i chose no. 4 but that creates ice in the fridge. My fresh milk gets into ice after 1-2 days i put them in the fridge.
3. what's the best setting to choose actually?
4. is there any possibility my high electricity bill is caused by this fridge freezer?
Thanks.

Hi there and welcome to the site, thank you for your inquiry,

Please remember to rate my assistance at the end of our dealings as this is a requirement of using the site, by continuing you are in agreement with this, at any time you may ask further questions if you feel the need..

Now, regarding your cyclic fridge freezing and using excessive power etc..

7 is the coldest setting and 1 is the warmest setting.

If your fridge is freezing milk after 48 hours then the fridge thermostat is set too cold. This will also be causing the appliance to consume more electricity than is required yes, as it is acting more like a freezer than a fridge.

The temperature dial is for the fridge only, the freezer will freeze to around -16 regardless of what setting you choose.

Gently turn the knob all the way back to number 1 and if you go a little further, the knob should actually bottom out and stop the motor from working on the fridge. Wait 1 minute and then turn the knob gently back to the number 2 position. The best way to judge the temperature is to place a glass of cold water in the middle of the fridge on a shelf and leave a thermometer in the glass of water. Check the temp every 4-5 hours and make small half number incremental adjustments until you are between 2 and 4 degrees on average on the thermostat.. Allow 4-5 hours for the temperature to actually change as it is cyclic and not as responsive as what a frost free fridge is okay

If still too cold, go down to 1 and a 1/2, if too warm, go to 2 and 1/2 etc,, and continue in this fashion until you are between 2-4 degrees on the thermostat*.

If changing the temperature at the dial brings no results in relation to this problem, the thermostat is stuffed and will require replacing. This fridge can take a VT9 universal fridge freezer thermostat at the cost of about $20 to $30, plus the first hour of labor to install it etc...

Any further questions, just ask, I'm happy to answer them and receive a positive rating regarding your inquiry.

Cheers.

Hi Rose,

Just one more thing, the button on the side of the knob is there to manually defrost the fridge, but I suggest that you do not use this feature, they can be a real pain in the backside. The best way to do a defrost is to switch the unit off at the power point okay.

I forgot to mention that above, so I just wanted to clear that up and answer your inquiry 100%

Thank you for the positive rating also, highly appreciated,

Let me know how you get on with the temperature settings okay,,
