I have a Hoover 6kg machine which is making a strong hissing sound for the past few days. The sounds gets less during the rinsing cycle and spinning cycle. What does this mean? It is still washing fine but sound is huge. Thanks Jean
Already Tried: Nothing
Hi there Jean and welcome to the website,,

Can you tell me some more info on the hissing sound you are hearing please? Is it making this noise the entire time, or just initially when the machine is filling and then stops when the machine is washing the clothes? Then starts again when it fills for the rinse cycle?
This is a Hoover 6kg top loader yes? Any chance of the model number please?
It will be on the back section of the control panel*
Thanks.
Yes it's a 6kg top loader. Can't tell the model as it is too heavy for me to pull out. Will have to wait for help. But it is an Ambassador and one of these model nos. 1240/1250/1280/1284. The hissing happens as soon as the machine begins working and continues right through to the just before the spinning cycle. Is something caught somewhere. I doubt it is the motor or it would have burnt out by now. Yes, it is an old machine in excellent condition. It has been serviced twice and each time the tech. remarked on its great condition. So what do you thinnk? Jean.
The noise is there while the machine is filling, washing, pumping, but not when it spins? The hissing happens as soon as the machine begins workingFilling, or actually when it starts to agitate and wash the clothes?
The hissing is during the washing, not filling, or refilling, or spin drying. Sorry I am going off line now. Have an early start tomorrow.
Thank you,Can you open the lid of the machine tomorrow after work and turn the agitator by hand left and right a few times and tell me if you can hear the noise you are referring to when you are twisting the agitator*
Today is Monday 2. I have been away from my comp all day Sun. I believe that I have been misled by your website into thinking that I could chat with a tech. on the spot. That is what I saw when I decided to ask for your help. But it has not been the case, so I am not impressed with the way I have been mislead. When the words "on line" are used, that's what it should mean, shouldnt it? Instead I waited for 2 hours and shut down. The next day Sat around even. I turned on and read again another Q. So please just forget about this. I am having a real live tech come to the house today. Thanks Jean. P.S. This is by no means a reflection on the technician but on the company who gets us to believe we can have a chat, one on one, right then and there.
