Have a Maytag fridge (side by side) heard hissing noise from bottom of freezer so removed all items from bottom of shelf and noticed a red hot element that water was dripping onto making the noise. Is this normal? maybe part of frost free? Any help would be unreal.
Optional Information: Brand: Maytag Type of Appliance: Refrigerator Already Tried: Turned fridge off
hello, thanks for using JA
No worries enough info?
What you are hearing is perfectly normal. In the bottom of the freezer is a heater coil that is controlled by the defrost control. Every 8-12 hours the unit turns off the compressor and turns on that heater to melt the frost that accumulates in the 8-12 hour period. There is nothing to worry about, it will normally stops within 30 mins.Without that it will stop working.
Great was just late at night and heard the noise. Hoped it was just that but didnt want the house to burn down
