I'm thinking of purchasing a miele dishwasher and possibly an oven/cooktop/rangehood outfit. I have seen that even though there is a substantial outlay, the repairs themselves are quite costly. Is this true and in your opinion, does it warrant such high prices?

Knowing the quality of appliances currently on the market, I think you would be better off buying a cheaper brand and putting the money into extended warranty instead and saving probably $1500 along the way still.
Big brands carry big repair costs, and sometimes this is not always as good as one thinks. The majority of appliances last a max of ten years now on average, even less in most cases. The new stuff is just not as good as what it was 5-10 years ago, regardless of the brand. Especially fridges and washing machines..
When someone comes into the shop with a Miele appliance, I have to turn them away because they are generally insulted when I tell them the price of the parts alone, not including our labor charge..
I would never buy a Miele dishwasher myself, I just don't see the return for the investment.
Ive been installing cheap dishwashers for rental properties (These cop a hiding) for around $400. They come with 2 years warranty and for an extra $100 i get an extended warranty of up to 5 years. Thats $500 for 5 years warranty. If you get 5 years out of a dishwasher with everyday use and dont have to pay a cent for parts, you are doing well*
A control module for a Miele dishwasher would probably cost $400 to put things into perspective* plus labor also, after the warranty period,,
Here, this may interest you with future purchases, or at least give you something to work against regarding buying anything at the right price*

You could buy all 4 things mentioned above for half the price of what Miele would want and tuck some $$$ aside if you ever run into trouble regarding repairs, after the warranty period.

Do you know the warranty for miele? I see they promote 20 years wear, but guarantee only 2yrs....do you need to buy extra warranty?
Its up to you personally. I usually do on a new appliance, just in case. I'm pretty sure it is 2 years'. Miele appliances are good, it really all depends on how much your prepared to spend also.
the salesperson said to me that if i weren't getting a miele wall oven, then to go for electrolux...does that sound right...I thought that was a different kettle of fish???
but for dishwashers, is fisher & paykel the next in line?
I guess I want to know from your point of view what seems to have the less dramas in dishwashers?
Hi Mayzee,Good quality oven would be a Bosch. A cheaper oven of reasonable quality would be Chef, or Westinghouse (made by Electrolux) Steer clear of the actual Electrolux branded ovens*Dishwashers, FIsher Paykel are the worst, the Dish Drawers anyway... A normal type/style would be okay, there dishwashers were pretty good in the beginning yes. Parts and service are expensive...I would opt for Bosch or Dishlex in a dishwasher, more so the DIshlex because they are common and a bit cheaper, but I would go extended warranty also,,,(5 years on the site I gave you above)That is me personally, based on repairs and history working on these brands.Any further questions, just ask
Ok...so why stay clear of electrolux?
The quality and backup support is not good at all. If you read the many reviews on their branded products, you will see exactly what I mean. Not made to last at all*I would never buy anything in their brand* Cheap quality, expensive price*
ok...thank for that...good to know.
thank you very much for your opinions :)
You are most welcome, I am happy to assist in any way possible.
