Just waiting for you to join the chat*
Welcome to JA
I`m new to this. What do I do ?
Nothing, we just chat back and forth and at the end, you will be asked to rate my service to your inquiry okay,
You cant rate until I un-check the box here and then you will see the bar come up where you rate my answer okay,, if you have any questions about that then, just ask okay,
The dryer runs for around 3 minutes and then stops, and wont work until it has cooled down correct?
Does it have the red reset button behind the door when you open it?
The reset button is behind the door.
And you keep having to press that after each time it gets too hot and stops yes?
Are you still there please?
This is what I got from your question:
Would you like me to just go ahead and answer that without asking you too many questions?
Yes, I am Still here. In answer to your last question, Because the exterior of the unit was so hot and ther was the burning smel, which I think is electrical, I was not game to immediately press the rest button. I waited a dayy and exactly the same thing happened.Stop.
I'm going to go ahead and answer all of your questions that you have asked and give you my diagnosis okay,, is that okay with you please?
Okay, the first problem with the dryer overheating and having the cabinet extremely hot and the burning smell*
There is a belt on the back of this dryer, pull the dryer forward, on the back is an oval cover, behind the cover is the blower belt. Undo the 1-2 screws and remove the cover, your blower belt has broken. When this happens, the dryer will overheat and then the safety cut out switch will activate (The red reset button) This is exactly how the dryer is meant to react when it overheats* It will only go for so long, get too hot and then stop*
When it cools down again, the red reset button can then be pressed (When its cold again) and this will reset the dryer. Until you replace the broken blower belt though, it will keep on overheating*
Tell me please, do you go onto Ebay to buy things?
I can show you the part there*
The blower belt is only $7 on Ebay, but $20 at most shops, this is why I ask you, I can save you about $15,
Yes, I do go to ebay and welcome your guidance.
Here is the exact part you require:
That is the blower belt in question on the back behind the oval cover*
If, I press "copy " just above what I am typing, can I print this number out ?
If you hover your mouse over it and click, the new page should show on your screen. You can then save this to your favorites,, or at the end of this session, you can print out entire conversation if you would like to* You can also come back here to your question and re read it at any time* Even after rating etc,,
Now as for the clunking noise,,, this will be one of 2 things, Either the idler pulley has fair wear and tear (The part that tensions the main drum belt inside the dryer) , or the dryer drum guides have worn down. Either way , I expect this repair to cost around $60 maximum at a reputable repair service. Both are simple repairs, if you get the belt yourself, you will already be saving some money..
This dryer is worth repairing yes, the older Simpson dryers are much better than the newer Simpson dryers, I have worked on both types for many years now* Your will still outlive most of the new ones*
The clunking noise is best repaired by someone who knows the machine, as the whole back needs to be removed and the drum removed from the cabinet etc,,
Am I making sense so far please? Do you have any questions at this point in time?
Hello, are you still here?
I shall await your reply*
I am ending the chat conversation now as I am not receiving any replies from you. You can still log into your question here and ask me further questions if need be okay, we just have to do it via question and answer and not via chat*
I'll wait a few more minutes first, just in case there is some kind of problem,
I would like to keep a record of this conversation and I did hover the mouse over the icon print and I did click but without sucsess. Afterwards,I clicked "copy" on my overhead tool br,but again without sucess.
