Our Maytag Atlantis MDE6400AGW continues to run on the auto dry cycle, long after the clothes are dry. Is there a sensor or controller that may need calibrating or is the ambient air humidity a factor?
Optional Information: Brand: Maytag Type of Appliance: Dryer Already Tried: Begin the auto dry function well into the cycle.
Hello,
Sorry to hear about the problem on your dryer.
You need to check the heater on the dryer. On the auto cycle, the timer motor is ran in conjunction with the heater thru the operating thermostat. Normally, if the dryer fails to heat, the auto cycle will not shut off due to the fact that the thermostat is never tripped. Your dryer has no sensor it is all mechanical. If the dryer is heating properly, then I would replace the operating thermostat.
That makes sense. The heater operates OK, but there is virtually no advance of the timer. I am ordering a new thermostat.
