Customer Question

I have an LG "Fuzzy Logic" 5.5kg Top Loader. It failed, with a "dE" fault notification, part way through the wash cycle. I've tried everything I can, including taking all the clothes out, but the water will not empty out of the barrel and the fault cannot be cleared.

Maybe its the "fuzzy Logic" I need to master??? Can someone please assist? I'd be very grateful.

Thankyou

Bruce

Already Tried:
- taking all clothes out; - turning power on/off; - starting at the rinse cycle; and - altering the water level.

Hi there and welcome to the website,,

Please remember to rate my answer based on the service you have received here today. If there are any problems at all, please respond and allow me to reply before rating my answer so we may have a positive outcome regarding your inquiry.

Now. lets get down to business,

This has nothing to do with your operation of the machine.

The fault code DE means there is a door error, or lid switch problem, the machine isnt registering the lid as closed in your case.

Being a fuzzy logic washing machine, it probably has the folding lid correct?

Any chance you can supply the full model number please?

Also, I have to go offline for a while, so If you cannot wait until I am able to reply later on this evening, you may opt out of working with me and the question will re open back up to all other experts okay,

Please supply the model number though, I need this to be able to give further info on remedying this problem*

Many thanks for your quick response.

To answer your questions:

1. The model number is XXXXX - purchased from Bing Lee, in Eastwood NSW, on 9 December 2009;

2. Yes, it does have a folding door - from rear to front.

3. The full description off the sales docket is: 5.5 kg Delay Start Turbo Drum*B

Cheers

Bruce

Hi Bruce,

I need you to open the lid please, and look for a plastic tab where a magnet may be hidden, this is the lid switch*

It should be in a rectangular shape (same as the magnet) attached to the underside of the lid somewhere,,, usually one of the sides,,,or close to the sides*

It could also be in the very middle on the very front of the lid, directly in line with the handle* look at the following, link, do you see where I mean

http://spares.bigwarehouse.com.au/popup_image.php?pID=1617605

Here is the magnet in question*

Normally in these machines, the lid switch is operated by the hinge, but I am not seeing it in the exploded diagrams for this model, so I need you to check for me okay,

Thanks,AUSSIE- Repair Tech.41080.4078171643

Edited above post, please re read*

Customer replied 294 days and 2 hours ago.

Cannot see it in the lid hinges. However, at the front of the lid, in the very centre, there is what appears to be an open, hinged, aperture, that looks, because of a rust outline, as though it may have held something....quite possibly the described magnet???? This aperture closes on the 'lip' of the machine....which, if its the right location and would normally hold the magnet, and the magnet is now missing, would explain the DE fault warning....???

If correct I have no understanding of how the magnet should fixed in the aperture...Other than to glue it in???

Many thanks

Bruce

p.s. I have sodden clothes rotting in my trough...:-)

Yes, I edited my above response in relation to the bit at the very front middle of the lid*

This is your problem Bruce. The magnet has fallen out of your lid...so the machine will not spin or do much else until you replace the magnet.

Usually they clip in, but I'm sure some super glue would be fine also...

Your magnet is probably in the washing machine, considering the lid folds and if it was going to fall anywhere, it would be into the machine wash bowl*

Ive already given you the link to a new replacement one, but here it is again just so its easy to locate a new one if required.

$15 is about right.

Lower the drain hose down to ground level and run the water into your laundry floor drain, or out the back door. Then you can remove the clothes one by one and search for the missing magnet.,,, maybe you will get lucky and find it in there*

If not, you'll need to order a new one, but in the meantime.. you can sit a decent sized fridge magnet on the same area where the lid would close against and the machine will work* etc,,,

Any questions Bruce, just ask, otherwise your rating of my assistance today would be highly appreciated.AUSSIE- Repair Tech.41080.423015081

More than happy to help, just let me know please.

Customer replied 240 days and 3 hours ago.

Apologies for not "signing-off". I've glued the replacement magnet into the housing which I also glued back together again and affixed to the washer lid......:-). All working perfectly...And now living in clean clothes.

I really appreciated your prompt and willing help. I've recommended this service to a number of friends...

Thank you very much.
