I ran it out of fuel and now it won't start only sometimes

Customer Question

Hi I ran it out of fuel and now it won't start only sometimes and when it does it says check power train and when I won't start it says low fuel and fuel gauge error
JA: Has the vehicle turned into a gas hog? And how does it start -- same as usual?
Customer: No, and starts fine when it does start
JA: What is the make/model/year of your car?
Customer: Holden Commodore sv6 2004
JA: Are you fixing your Commodore yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: I've got a friend looking at it and checked the fuses
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: I googled a few things and said it may be code p0601

Hi there,

You need a new computer.

P0601 is an EEPROM failure.

Common fault for VZ V6.

Fuel gauge inop is a another sign.

I've replaced many while working for Holden.
