Car wont start, have tried everything, its coming up with

Customer Question

Car wont start, have tried everything, its coming up with (!) (In a circle) on the dash, it only comes up when i try to start it, its clicking like it wants to start just wont turn over. Could this be the smartlock or immobiliser?
JA: Where exactly do you think the noise is coming from? And how long has this been going on?
Customer: Theres no noise....
JA: What is the model/year of your Smart?
Customer: 2003 BA ford falcon
JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: Trying to, trying to locate immobiliser fuse (if there is one) checked baterry power as its brand new battery took the terminals off the battery for 15 minutes then tried again to reset the system, put the car in neutral and then tried to start it, left key in the ignition on the ON position for half an hour to try and start it to no avail, mind you my partner was playing with stereo yesterday, he pulled the icc unit out of the dash to try and instal a head deck, and heard some clicking, he blew 2 fuses and got wires crossed.
JA: Anything else you think the mechanic should know?
Customer: I just need to know if its the immobiliser or smartlock feature if the ford 2003 ba model has one.

Hello and welcome to JustAnswer!

If you're hearing a clicking when trying to start the engine then odds are the starter is the issue assuming the battery is actually fully charged. A single click from the engine compartment is usually the starter itself but it could be a cable or connection issue, a rapid clicking is usually caused by low battery voltage available to the starter.

Is the clicking coming from the engine compartment when attempting to crank? Is it a single click each time the key is turned?
