Some questions to help me help you.
Does the theft deterrent light turn off when you turn ignition key on?
Sounds like it could have a burnt alternator battery harness.
Can you check the harness behind the red rubber boot on the back of the alternator, it could be hot, it could be loose, or it could look burnt.
We did many alternators/battery harness replacement in VX days.
Ok, if the alternator lead looks ok, that's a good start.
The theft deterrent light is on the mode switch.
It is the flashing red led when your security system is set.
So, when you turn the key on, does this light go out or stay lit?
Are the headlights bright or dim?
You say you were driving, the car cut out without ANY warning (overheating, low oil pressure etc) and now the engine won't crank at all?
Does everything else appear to work ok?
I have seen poor engine ground at the block cause this.
Are you near an auto electrician who could look at it for you?
Do you know anybody with a scan tool that can check vehicle DTCs for you?
Does it sound like the starter motor engages at all while trying to start the engine?
Makes a thud type noise of engaging but not turning.
I have had engines overheat and seize to to point of stopping and won't restart.
Can't turn the engine by hand either.
Yes, sounds electrical.
Follow the large black negative lead from the negative battery terminal to the engine block.
Make sure the block terminal is tight.
Then check to see if the large red at the starter motor DOES have 12 volts at the terminal.
I am better than the average auto electrician, Gold Certified Holden tech, but I'm not with you.
I wish I was, I would have the answer for you now.
Give all the relays in the engine bay fusebox a wriggle, especially the start and EFI relays.
