Customer Question

I have a 2009 Kia Sorento diesel 2.5 litre automatic. From time to time it seems to surge/hesitate and at the same time emits a brushing/sweeping sound. This occurs, mostly when no accelerator is applied - increasing power solves the problem. The engine runs very well and has plenty of power for towing my caravan. At first I thought it was an engine problem (and maybe it is) but I have had it checked thoroughly by two Kia agents and they can find noting wrong. It doesn't feel like a transmission problem, but I'm wondering if it is. Could a transmission problem feed back to look like an engine problem? Anyway, any help you can give will be appreciated. John.

Hi John,

I'm not a Kia expert, but I do know my Holden product well.

Our diesel, and I'm sure others as well, have many problems with injectors, rail pressure sensors etc.

Does it ever put the engine light on?

What brand of fuel do you use?

And lastly, does your vehicle have a DPF?

A transmission problem could look like an engine problem AND vice versa.

Hi Gary
Finally managed to see your reply - something went wrong yesterday...
Sorry that you're not a Kia expert, the website seems to be quite clear that my query would go to one. Never mind, I will just keep badgering the NZ Kia people. I appreciate your replying so promptly but, under the circumstances, I trust I will not be charged.
Regards John.
