Hello

the carnival is also known as the Sedona in other parts of the world

what to look for

Poor two star NCAP crash safety rating.

Inconvenient 2-2-3 seating arrangement with back three seats on a single bench up to 2001MY (separately folding and removable from 2002MY).

A bit slow for the power outputs.

Very truck-like to drive and understeers heavily.

Sedona 7th bottom model in 2004 JD Power Customer Satisfaction Survey. Came 17th = from bottom in 2005 JD Power/What Car Survey of 23,000 cars reg Sep 2002 to Aug 2003 with satisfaction score of 74.9%

When buying second-hand check very carefully for rust in seams, rust on the underside of the vehicle and badly rusted boltheads. Rust also occurs behind the chrome rear number plate eybrow on the hatchback.

Report received November 2006 of frightening failure of lower steering arm coupling on a 2004 Sedona.

Seems to be a problem with early common rail diesel injection systems (later systems were modified), Can require replacement of entire fuel system at cost of more than £4,000.

Front wheel bearings are a weakspot and come as an expensive entire hub unit so are expensive.

Year 2000 Registered Kia Sedona MoT tested during 2011 had the 5th worst overall pass rate at 36%

Recalls

10-11-2003: On 2,558 cars ABS programming error may cause reduced braking force at speeds below 40kph. Reprogramme ABS, ECM and RDM data. June 2005: 5,642 Sedonas supplied between June and October 2004 recalled for fear of premature rear wheel bearing failure caused by caps not having been tightly sealed allowing moisture in. Modified caps to be fitted and wheel bearing replaced if worn. Also 446 Sedonas supplied in July and August 2004 recalled because oil pump strainer could restrict supply of lube oil to engine.
