ive got a vz commodore been sitting around for about 2 months tried to start it its tiurning over but wont fire it ran fine previously guy done at the garage want to drop a new engine in it but thats going to be costly an ideas before going down that path

garage says its got very low compression and the check power train light is now on

Hi there,

I would perform a cylinder leakage test next.

This will pinpoint the loss of compression.

Very common for heavy carboned-up valves, not sealing and compression loss.
